Enough

Sometimes we need a reminder of why life is so simply awesome. It isn't suppose to be easy. If anything, we will need plenty of help hands (or claws).

At work, we have punch cards. You order 9 coffee drinks and your 10th is free. A man came in and received his 9th punch. I told him that his next drink is going to be free. Instead of getting excited and dreaming up an elaborate treat to spend the free drink on (you can make it as extravagant as you want for no additional cost), he handed me back the card and told me to give the free drink to anyone of my choosing.

It was nice to know that kindness still exists in this world. And I felt privileged to be part of that act of kindness. I gave the free drink to an older man who comes n from time to time and usually digs out change from his wallet to pay for his mochas. If anyone could appreciate a free drink, it was him.

Sometimes it is nice to share our wealth, our luck, or whatever you want to call it.

After all, what is life without everyone else that we share this world with? Sometimes it feels amazing to share. Whether you are sharing space with someone else, or a drink, or a ride. Sharing is caring. It is that simple. To see someone be present enough to consider giving his own fortune to someone he doesn't know and may never meet is so incredibly inspiring.

What perplexes me is that he will never get a "thank you". He performed a kind act without desiring acknowledgement. I felt chills go through me at that moment. It's very much like the beautiful presentation of scallops on the plate. It is vibrant and welcoming. Yet what would the point of this dish be if no one saw it? Then again, maybe the fact that it exists is enough.

A tree that falls in the middle of the forest does make a sound. Even if no one is there to hear it.
A baby cries even if no one is there to hear him.
A man gives away his free drink, even if the recipient doesn't know who it was from.

Maybe if we keep moving forward. Taking baby steps.

Building upon our knowledge, our accomplishments, and our experiences

We will become more than our single actions

We will become more than each challenge that we overcome

We will become something to behold. Will anyone see us? Will anyone give us a trophy and say, "You are the best (fill in the blank)" ? Who knows.

One day everything we have done or everything that we possess will go up in flames.

You know what? I think that is the point. Live with purpose so that when you lose everything you still have what is important.

YOU.

I am pretty sure that is enough.

  1. I love it when little things like that happen and just make you think. Sometimes, all it takes is the compassionate act of one person to make you realize how awesome this world can be. Thanks so much for sharing!
