Happy Friday! I crossed off two items from my list today. Number 6, invite someone to lunch. In this case, it was dinner, so that is extra points, right? Number 23, go to first Friday in downtown Bryan. I love this little challenge, because I have spent far too long cooped up in my lovely little existence with Stephen. I never go out anymore, and I am trying my best to change that. With last weekend's wine night, and tonight's dinner out, I think I am moving in the right direction.
I still have 12 more to cross off. I am going to be okay with myself if I don't cross everything off, because this is enabling me to experience more and challenge myself. There is no need to be perfect about this!
Okay...onwards to the highlights of my day!
I put this quote up on my wall. It is right in front of my computer. This quote is something I need to see every single day, and honestly as often as possible. I tend to get scared of pursuing things because I know that there are people out there that are better than me. Why should I want to be a chef? There are chefs in the world already? How can I call myself an artist, when there are amazing artists out in the world already? How can I be a yoga teacher if there are so many out there? The list goes on and on. I never think that I should do something if someone else is already great at it. What would the point be? I have this terrible need to prove myself to the world, and I can be terribly competitive. But the competition is such a silent one, and it eats at me.
So here I am, making a vow to be kinder to myself. I will give myself the permission to pursue what I want. I have the right to do anything. No one can stop me...well, besides me! So I will stop stopping myself. The intent is there, right?
On that note, I have crossed a few items off my list. I have stepped out of my comfort zone a little bit and am so proud of myself for it. I went out to dinner with my friend Lauren. We were public relations managers for OPAS (theater organization on campus) last year. We went to First Friday in downtown Bryan and decided to eat at a new restaurant called The Lemon Wedge, because the restaurant we were going to had an hour wait.
We walked in a were greeted by the host...who was actually in OPAS with us. He was actually out PR exec. So that was a HUGE coincidence! It was awesome to talk to such great people and try out a new restaurant.
A fake lemon tree in the restaurant adds some charm.
I ordered an heirloom tomato and watermelon salad. It had lots of blue cheese on it. So flavorful and delicious!
Poblano Chicken soup with toasty bread on the side. This was an awesome chicken soup with some veggies in it.
We each ordered a dessert so that we could each try them out. I loved how small the servings were. Definitely manageable for one person! I ordered the carrot cake. It is one of my favorite types of cake in the world! I think I will have to make this for either my cupcake recipe or for my birthday cake. Probably the cake.
This is a chocolate chess pie. It was very tasty and fudgy. I preferred the carrot cake. Then again, I prefer cake to pie. And I am not sure, but I might prefer carrot cake to chocolate cake. Maybe. It is at least a tie!
This is their breakfast menu. I am definitely coming back to this adorable restaurant when I am either on a date with Stephen, for lunch, or after I get paid. Definitely one of my new favorite restaurants in the area.
Tonight was a night filled with coincidences. Lauren and I got lost on our way to downtown Bryan. There were some benefits to our extra long car adventure:
- Extra time to chat and catch up. Plus, we maintain our legacy of always getting lost when we are in a car together.
- We ran into an amazing sunset!
- We got a parking spot right behind The Lemon Wedge, which gave us the idea to go there after finding out the wait at the other restaurant was an hour long.
- We got to see Sam.
- We had an amazing dinner.
I love the way life works. How was your Friday?

I love that name for a restaurant. I've always wanted to call the name of my restaurant something kinda funny like "swallow" or "bite me". I love sunsets, but I love sunrises I think more. if only i could get myself to wake up early enough to see them
ReplyDeleteYou are totally kicking butt with your list, lady! And even though most people think it's hokey, I totally think that "coincidences" are signs from the universe or something. I love that you were able to bust out of your social circle a bit and reconnect, not only with great friends but some great food and scenery as well. It looks like a great start to your birthday month :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you're so committed to accomplishing what's on your list. Seeing you cross a thing or two off at each post is so inspiring to me. I ought to make a list of my own and try to set challenges for myself to complete!
ReplyDeleteThe Lemon Wedge looks pretty awesome! I'm glad you had an amazing dinner and an amazing time with Lauren. Sometimes, things happen for a reason and this time, it was probably so that you both could enjoy each others' company that little bit longer! x)
Much love,
Nat xoxo
