Hullabaloo's Diner

Today was a very productive Saturday. I ended my Friday on a very stressed note, because planning a trip to Vegas for two groups is not an easy feat. I booked the trip for Stephen and I and for some reason, only the flight went through. I booked the trip for his mom and granny and theirs worked perfectly. So I spent over an hour on the phone with the company and with my bank figuring things out. I finally just tried to book it again and it worked! Hopefully the first charges get voided like they promised.

But...we are going to Vegas in December!!! This was a very mpulsive trip. I was looking through Travelzoo (great site, by the way) and found great deals for vegas hotels including flght. We have been trying to decide on a fun trip for Christmas break, so this seemed perfect. Stephen thought his mom and granny would love a good deal and a vacation, too, so we invited them. Now our trip is booked. Sometimes impusive decisions are the best. After all, it only takes one moment to make the decision. Why waste the stress thinking about it?

I worked out with my Bondi Band today! It says Canser Sucks, but I wore it upside down. Note how ridiculous I look in headbands. I have the world's tiniest forehead, so hates and headbands looks pretty horrific on me.

I painted a piece for my the Curves gym that my mom goes to. They have a silent auction for breast cancer in the fall, so I decided to paint something with pinks and purples. It says, "Soar towards your dreams."

I finished the painting I posted the other day. It's a little crazy, but I like it.

Breakfast today was a stack of chocolate peanutbutter pancakes with greek yogurt and banas in between the pancakes.

Absolutely delicious!

Lunch was feta, guacamole, tomato, and spinach on dark rye. This combo was so soft and delicious. I love guacamole with a soft cheese like feta or goat. I would never have thought this would be so wonderful, but it really works.

Date night was phenomenal. We wanted something cheap, so I suggested Hullabaloo's Diner.

This diner was actually featured on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. There is Guy Fieri, himself, on the wall.

The dessert menu board. Too bad we are not pie lovers.

I love the look of a classic diner. If you noticed from the first picture, this is actually in a diner car. I was afraid that this place would be packed and loud. But it was actually super peaceful. It should be packed, though. It is a gem of a diner.

Records decorate the walls.

They brought us free dessert samples. This one is a chocolate pie. Not bad. Chocolate pudding in pie form.

I ordered the Roman Sausage Sandwich. It has two itlaian sausages, peppers, onions, cheese, and is served with a side of marinara. It is also served with the most amazing french fries.

Stephen ordered the Mexican Burger.

He ate it all.

I put a good dent in mine. We have both decided that really good french fries are an evil side to have with your dinner. You can be full and satisfied, but you are never finished until the water takes the plate away. French fries are too easy to just keep popping into your mouth. This is only problematic for me if the french fries are AMAZING. These fit the bill. They were so good.

This is the first restaurant in a long time that satisfied both of us equally. We will definitely be back here. It loved up to my expectations. There is a part of me that adores greasy diner food, especially when it is well made. Now, number 10 is crossed off my list!

We always have dessert. It is a rule in our world. I decided to make a dessert so that our tummies could settle a bit. Plus, I need to create some cookies before I turn 26! I decided on basic oatmeal chocolate chip cookies:

Cookies:
1 stick unsalted butter softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
Cream together
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp rum
1 tbsp greek yogurt
Whisk until well incorporated.

1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Mix together
Add into wet ingredients until incorporated.

Stir in:
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
scant 1 cup dark chocolate chips

Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes.

Allow to cool.

We are not done yet.

I then made a peanut butter filling.

about 1/3 cup peanut butter
a good splash of almond milk
about 1/3 cup confectioner's sugar
2 tbsp softened butter

Cream the butter and peanut butter. Add the sugar and milk and stir. I played with ingredient amounts until I had a thick and creamy consistency.

I placed a big dallop of peanut butter on every other cookie.

Then I created the sandwiches!

These babies are pretty beautiful.

A look at the inside.

Yum! Number 12 is now crossed off of my list!

We bought new beer today. I bought one I have never tried before so that number 3 can get crossed off, too. I am enjoying this list. It makes me more mindful and less likely to get into a rut.

I am a happy girl with an extremely happy tummy today. How was your Saturday?

  3. Vegas, baby! I was there once, and to be honest, it was enough. However, I'm so glad I had the chance to go ;) You guys will have a blast!

I love diners, as everything from the malts to the bread is usually homemade. Looks like a fun little joint, and DDD approved, none the less.

I third the pancake love up above. Wowza.
