For breakfast, I had some overnight oatmeal that I prepared the night before. This really is a genius way to make breakfast when you don't have a heat or cooking source in your hotel room. The fridge, milk, and almond butter do all the work for you!
During the morning, we went to the Body Exhibit and say plasticized human bodies and organs. It was pretty awesome. It's so hard to believe that we don't have more things wrong with us. Our bodies are so intricate and yet they work so efficiently. It makes me appreciate my body as more than something I control and shape and clothe. It makes me realize why I try to take good care of it. It takes great care of me, so I need to give back!
The highlights of the trip definately involve food. Monday's lunch was at the Twisted Root, a burger joint. I got a turkey burger with blue cheese and curly fries.
It was pretty amazing. I like that they served it on a yummy wheat bun. The blue cheese was an excellent choice on my part. We are 2 for 2 on restaurant choices!!
For the afternoon, we spent some time in the Dallas zoo/aquarium.
This waterfall is actually in the zoo! You work your way down (or up) through the rain forest and see birds, animals, and eventually turtles and fish.
Here are three turtles. The one in the middle is saying hello, which is slightly creepy.
For dinner, we went to a latin fusion restaurant, which had mostly Puerto Rican food!! This was so exciting for me, because I love Puerto Rican food (I am Puerto Rican!). And let me tell you. This place did not disappoint one bit. Definately my favorite restaurant of the trip.
These are sorrulitos de maiz. I make these at home sometimes, but I can never resist ordering them. They are fried corn sticks. Yum!
One of my favorite sides of all time: Yuca fries!!!! I love these!!! Yuca is like potato, but the texture is slightly different. These made me smile.
I barely made a dent in mine, but it was delicious. This is one dish that you HAVE to try if you are ever at a Puerto Rican restaurant, or better yet, in Puerto Rico. Mofongo is definately THE dish to try!
Dessert was trouble...
Guava and cream cheese turn overs with ice cream.
The turn overs showing off their amazingness.
The ice cream with some guava on it.
The insides of the turnover. My goodness these were excellent. Excellent!
We ended the night with The Flying Saucer, where I got 2 pints of dark beer. Unfortunately, I have developed the world's smallest tolerance. So I couldn't finish both. I was pleasantly tipsy and that is fine for me!
It was definately a great day.
Some amazing looking food! How often do you paint? How long does it take you to get a piece "blog worthy"? :-)
ReplyDeleteI paint or draw a few times a week when I can. You know what? It doesn't take any time to make a piece blog worthy, because I put up the pieces more for me and don't mind too much if the general public doesn't like them! I believe that art is at its best in a very raw, unedited form, so that's how I post them. Freshly made!
ReplyDeleteI can understand that. I'm not a big art guy but so far what I've seen I've liked. My aunt would hate me right now to hear that....I took her to the National Gallery of Canada when she was visiting from Cali and my running joke all day was "now here's a good painting" which was of course a nude :-) I really was impressed with more than the nudes but it was just too much fun bugging her as she's big into art.
ReplyDeleteHey, I notice you visited the hotel gym. Would you mind writing a review at http://www.HotelGymReview.com?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
